Ir e Voltar | RUAS D'ARTE — 2021
This is a painting that talks about the cyclical movement of GO and RETURN. On the coat of arms of Vila Nova de Poiares we can find two swallows, symbols of emigration and the return to the land of those who were born there. From there comes the desire to paint about this movement that characterizes these territories, as well as so many others throughout Portugal, and which also touches me personally. I myself live in this constant cycle between Portugal and Brazil. GOING e RETURNING to the territory where I was born is part of my life.
On opposite sides of the tower, two swallows appear, one in a outbound flight (GO) and the other in an arrival flight (RETURN). On the west-facing façade, I symbolically represent the sunset, the one that comes and goes every day and keeps the cycle forever, both for the swallows that return to the territories seasonally, and for all the natives, who no matter how much they have to GO, sooner or later they end up RETURNING, and so on...
